Management of drugs provision in developing countries – GPHF seminars for pharmacy students

Together with the Mainz University College of Pharmacythe GPHF organized one-week training seminars on the “Management of drugs provision in developing countries” for many years. The seminar was targeted to pharmacy students from developing countries who intended to return to their own countries to work as pharmacists and also to pharmacy students from Germany who aiming to work in the field of development cooperation.

The focus of these seminars was practice- and solution-oriented knowledge of the special conditions and demands related to the supply of medicines in developing countries. The seminar was part of the module on medicine quality and safety, sourcing and logistics together with business management and economics.

The lecturers were experienced experts in pharmaceutical science and pharmaceutical practice in pharmacies, industry and public authorities as well as in the field of development cooperation. The seminar was supplemented by the presentation of practical reports of experience in development cooperation.
The training program ended with an examination set and certified by the Central Laboratory of German Pharmacists.

Due to the great success of these GPHF seminars, the GPHF conducted similar programmes in later years also in Kenya for participants from several East African countries.
