2012 - 2013: Fake antimalarial medicine in Papua New Guinea (2)

The Institute of Medical Research in Papua New Guinea (PNG) together with the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute monitored the quality of a selected range of vital antimalarial medicines in PNG’s health facility supply chain. As an extension of the work done by the Global Pharma Health Fund and Frankfurt University, the follow-up study proofed again the existence of poor-quality antimalarial medicines collected throughout the country in 2012 and 2013. For example, the content of the malaria medicines amodiquine from some "Infant Camaquine" batches were in general 50% below the label claim. Whether done on purpose or unintentionally by poor manufacturing requires further investigation. For further readings go to the Facebook Wall "Minilabs Save Lives".
